Interactive exhibits shine at new Treaty exhibition in Dublin Castle

7th December 2021, Ireland. The Treaty, 1921: Records from the Archives is now open at Dublin Castle

The Taoiseach, accompanied by the Tánaiste and Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, attended the 'The Treaty, 1921: Records from the Archives' exhibition at Dublin Castle. The exhibition is presented by the National Archives in partnership with the Royal Irish Academy, the National Library of Ireland and the Office of Public Works, with records from the collections of the Military Archives and University College Dublin.

Digisoft were commissioned to deliver a package of digital enhancements to compliment the exhibition.

The elements delivered by Digisoft included interactive touchscreen kiosks which allow visitors and researchers an opportunity to examine digitized versions of the treaty documents in detail as well as listen to audio recordings and radio interviews of participants that were instrumental in the events surrounding the signing of the Treaty.

As well as in-venue multimedia installations, Digisoft have created an immersive virtual tour of the exhibition in order to preserve the experience beyond its physical deployment at Dublin Castle.

The 3D virtual tour includes detailed images, video and audio hotspots to enable a virtual visit from any where in the world. The virtual tour can be accessed here

Speaking at the exhibition, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said:

This is a significant exhibition, bringing key records relating to the foundation of the State to the public for the first time in 100 years. These records highlight this complex period in our history culminating in the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty 1921. They present the difficult political context in which the Treaty was negotiated but they also open a window for the first time into the world in which the Irish delegation operated during their time in London. It is an honour for me as Taoiseach to attend this exhibition”.

Digisoft collaborated with the creative team at EPIC Design to deliver the digital multimedia installations both in-venue and virtually to aid universal access to this commemoration of a very important milestone in Irish history.
